with the Pittsburgh Steelers."Following the conclusion of the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie minicamp Dan McCullers Jersey , which ran from May 10 through May 12, former Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges announced that he had signed with the team via Instagram. This move was then made official by the Steelers organization.Hodges made an impression on the Steeler staff in the five practices to sign him to a contract which made quarterback Brogan Roback expendable. While most Steelers fans have not heard of Hodges before, there is plenty to know about the FCS career passing leader. The record was previously held by former NFL quarterback Steve McNair who held onto the record for 24 years. The four-year starter accumulated 14,584 passing yards, 111 passing touchdowns in 45 games. Hodges also possesses a limited rushing skill set with 370 rushes for 1,017 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. He threw a touchdown in every game except the last one against Middle Tennessee St., but interceptions also plagued him all season and had four games with multiple picks. While he had massive games against Shorter and VMI, where he tallied over 800 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, he had 7 interceptions in the Chattanooga and Florida St games combined. Hodges was sailing along in the first half of the FSU game with two nice touchdown passes that showed good touch on the ball. His first of four interceptions came in the second quarter when he tried to force a pass into tight coverage and the ball bounced up in the air for an easy interception. The second half Hodges wilted under the constant pressure of the Seminoles defense while playing on the road. All three of the interceptions he tossed were of the ill-advised variety. The first he looked to be throwing the pass away but just was sloppy with it and kept the ball in the field of play. The second Hodges was under heavy duress and instead of taking the sack tried to do too much. The last one which sealed the win for FSU was the most egregious. On 2nd and 8 in a game separated by three points, Hodges stares down his wideout on a curl route and tosses an easy interception. The result should have resulted in a pick six but a sloppy penalty negated the touchdown. Hodges will have to shine as he did in the first half of the FSU game for Steelers coaches to give him any amount of training camp and preseason snaps. With quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger locked into the starting lineup and a fierce camp battle about to start between Mason Rudolph and Joshua Dobbs, there just might not be many reps. The reps that Hodges gets he needs to make the best of them for any legitimate shot at entering the camp battle let alone signed to the team’s practice squad. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sat out practice on Tuesday to give his broken left index finger a rest but he is expected to play on Thursday night when Carolina visits Heinz Field.Roethlisberger said the finger was "fine" after he threw the ball 47 times in last Sunday's victory over Baltimore. He did leave the game briefly in the third quarter after getting the wind knocked out of him Anthony Chickillo Jersey , but he returned after missing just one snap. The 36-year-old is on pace to top 5,000 yards passing for the first time in his career. He came close in 2014 when he tied Drew Brees for the league lead with 4,952. Roethlisberger said reaching the 5,000-yard plateau "is still a pretty big deal" but he is keeping his focus on the team. The Steelers (5-2-1) have ripped off four straight wins to climb into first in the AFC North. The short week means they won't have much time to prepare for the surging Panthers (6-2), which might not be a bad thing. Roethlisberger expects to rely a little more heavily on the no-huddle offense, a setup in which he thrives."We've been doing it for a while," Roethlisberger said. "We know it. We know it pretty well. We did it really well in Baltimore Mike Hilton Jersey , really well, and just being able to pick up the pace and the tempo."The Steelers often turn to the no-huddle in an effort to snap them out of a funk early in games, but Roethlisberger isn't using it as a method of trying to get the ball downfield. While he's on track to set a career high in yards, his production has dipped a bit during Pittsburgh's winning streak. He's gone over 300 yards just once in Pittsburgh's past five games after going over 330 yards in each of the first three weeks. An improved defense has helped. Roethlisberger lit up scoreboards early because the Steelers were trying to keep up with opponents who had little trouble getting to the end zone. That's not happening much anymore. Now that Roethlisberger isn't tasked with trying to play catch up, the Steelers have taken a more balanced approach.Second-year running back James Conner is second in the NFL in yards from scrimmage and Roethlisberger is content to keep throwing the ball underneath to move the chains and keep Pittsburgh's defense off the field. And just like that, Pittsburgh's sluggish 1-2-1 start has become a distant memory."There was no panic in this room early in the season," Roethlisberger said. "That's why we got a good chuckle out of (the media) panicking and the outside world panicking Joe Haden Jersey , but for us it was just a matter of playing the next week."NOTES: Right tackle Marcus Gilbert (knee) did not practice and is unlikely to play, meaning Matt Feiler will make his third straight start. ... NT Daniel McCullers (ankle) also did not practice. ... WR Antonio Brown (coach's decision) and WR Ryan Switzer (ankle) were limited. ... WR James Washington (knee) was a full participant.
