They were all Senior Bowl participants in the last two years that received calls from General Manager Les Snead to come out to Los Angeles Rams camp and put on pads. Going back beyond 2017, other Senior Bowlers-turned-Rams continue to pop up: Rob Havenstein, Austin Blythe, Sean Mannion, Paul McRoberts, Kevin Peterson, Louis Trinca-Pasat.With a shortage of premium draft picks in recent drafts, Les Snead has used the Senior Bowl as his team’s lifeblood. The Senior Bowl has provided the Rams with a great opportunity to see guys from smaller schools test their skills against experienced players from power conferences, and sometimes diamonds in the rough start flashing. The Rams have certainly shown that it is worth their while to take a flyer on some of these talents that will surely be available on days two and three of the draft.Finding a key contributor or three in the mid-to-late rounds will be integral to the Rams as they look to replenish their talent and depth, as their numerous pro bowlers soak up a large portion of the team’s cap space. The following players are 2019 Senior Bowl participants that might be lurking on Les Snead’s draft board:SafetiesWith the likely departure of previously franchise tagged FS Lamarcus Joyner Rob Havenstein Jersey , the Rams may look to the free agent market to fill the void. Regardless of how that plays out, there is a great chance that they will also select a safety somewhere between the fourth and seventh rounds. Here are some Senior Bowl participants that could go somewhere in that range: Kentucky S Mike EdwardsRanked 209 overallMichigan StateS Khari Willis Ranked 231 overallBoston College S Will Harris (another BC safety next to John Johnson III?!?)Ranked 196 overallMaryland S Darnell Savage Jr.Ranked 160 overallTight EndsThe Rams tight ends preformed well when called upon in 2018. Tyler Higbee was a solid blocker and Gerald Everett made some notable plays in the passing game down field. However, no Rams opponent would have ranked tight end highly among things to worry about against the Rams’ offense. It is entirely possible that the Rams will continue to poke around the mid-to-late rounds to see if they can find their guy. This year’s Senior Bowl had a couple of four-catch tight ends:Washington TE Drew Sample6’5” 251 lbsand…UCLA TE Caleb Wilson6’4” 235 lbsothers include these skyscrapers…Stetson TE David Parham 6’8” 240 lbsRanked 272 overallLSU TE Foster Moreau6’6” 256 lbsRanked 179 overallEDGE/outside linebackerThe quest for heat is still on. We don’t know whether Dante Flowler Jr, Dominique Easley, or Matt Longacre will be retained, so this area remains in flux. If the Rams can find a couple contributors in the second half of the draft, it will be another coup for the team as they look to add depth on the cheap around their blue chip stars. The Rams’ offensive line is aging and contains question marks at multiple spots. Sosa takes a look at the state of the offensive line, and why he believes it’s crucial to have Rodger Saffold return."The list of upcoming free agents for the Los Angeles Rams contains the longest tenured player on the roster, LG Rodger Saffold.Saffold was selected with the 33rd-overall pick (first pick in the second round) by the then St. Louis Rams in the 2010 NFL Draft. In what seems like eons ago, the Rams selected Saffold to protect the blindside of then newly drafted QB Sam Bradford.Fast forward nine years, one already failed free agency deal with the Oakland Raiders, a re-signing, and Super Bowl appearance later, and Saffold is officially a free agent once again. Saffold will begin the season as a 31-year old ninth-year vet, so I guess I can understand the idea of there being some “worry” as opposed to how long he can continue to play at a high level. I also don’t think it should scare the Rams enough to let him leave. The state of the offensive line is quite uncertain moving forward. Though RT Rob Havenstein is locked in place for the future and RG Austin Blythe is young and progressing Jared Goff Jersey , the remaining three spots on the offensive line are all question marks on a year-to-year basis. C John Sullivan is the anchor, though he’s quickly declining in terms of play and will be 34-years old to begin the season. LT Andrew Whitworth is still a superstar on the blindside, though he has yet to commit to playing this year and is 37-years old. With the left tackle and center positions potentially being holes moving forward both this year and in the future, the Rams need to do their best to retain the services of Rodger Saffold (who’s sandwiched between Whit and Sully) ensuring as much continuity on the OL as possible.Saffold is a fantastic player who’s seemingly moved on from a consistently injured player that’s oozing with potential to one of the best guards in football, so his services are likely to be compensated as such in the free agency market — if he reaches the market. Saffold went from stating he’d consider taking a “hometown discount” to remain with the Rams, though his tone recently changed (and can you blame him?):So what’s a potential deal for Saffold look like that’s fair for both sides?Well, it depends. It depends on whether the Rams would rather go heavy on guaranteed money, light on guaranteed money, or right in between. Taking a look at guard salaries on OverTheCap, I think a fair deal could look like this:3 years Samson Ebukam Jersey , $30m total, $10.5m guaranteedThat’d give Saffold another chance at a contract at 34-years old and falls right in line with recent guard extensions (35% of contract guaranteed). Now, Saffold re-signing likely means he’s fine with taking “less money” to stay in Los Angeles. That’s because if he does manage to reach the market, he’s likely to secure a big contract with the never-ending major need for quality offensive lineman across the league.Rodger Saffold being a mainstay on the offensive line, a high quality player, and a life-long Ram should ensure he’ll remain in horns for the foreseeable future. Let’s see if both parties agree.
